After the enormous success of the party collection of An Lemmens in December, she’s back! Her collection is colourful and filled with pieces that will make you hungry for summer. Discover here how An experienced the design process and how she will wear her collection this summer.
The last time we worked together it was a brilliant success. Did you expect this?
I hoped it would be! (laughs) Running up to the launch date I received a lot of reactions and messages so I felt that the world was eager to see and buy my collection. It always stays exciting until the collection is in store.
When it eventually came out it turned out to be an enormous success and it felt great to hear this. I loved seeing my mailbox explode with pictures from women wearing my collection during the holidays.
How was the design process for the new collection?
worked together so well. I felt that my ideas were being heard and they were translated well. The collection became exactly what I had in mind. It’s nice to work together like this because there is clear communication and we’re on the same page.
Could you describe your collection in 3 words?
Feel good, Good vibes and a statement piece. Oh, already too many words! (laughs) I really see a woman who feels great (no matter her size or colour or...). Every woman is beautiful and worth it, but it’s also important that those women radiate their power and make other women feel this way.
It’s clear that the collection is really colourful and explicit. Is this how you’d describe yourself?
Yes, totally! The party collection was already a reflection of me. However there is a big contrast between both of the collections, both of them represent me. In the summer collection I wanted pieces that were already a big statement. That’s why I chose these big prints and pieces that are outfits on their own.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very different when I'm home to when I’m working. My personal style is super comfy. I love to put something on in the morning and wear it throughout the whole day without worrying about it. I tried to do this in my collection as well, you can live through all the phases of the day in the same piece of clothing without ever being under- and overdressed.
With which accessories would you combine your collection?
I think pairing the dresses with a nice earring and a bag is a nice idea. The fun part about my collection is that every piece is a statement on its own and the accessories will be barely noticeable. (laughs)
For what kind of women did you design the collection? n?
Every woman! I really wanted to design a collection for both women who like to show their body shape and the women that are more like “I’m not sure about my belly, butt or arms”. I really tried to bring this into the collection. I want everyone to feel 100% great and confident in this collection.
There are 6 pieces in your collection. When would you wear each of your dresses or jumpsuits?
The maxidress exists in two colours and is really an easy-go-to piece. It’s my absolute favorite because you can wear it every day, all day and for any occasion. You can combine it with an easy flat shoe and it doesn’t really need any accessories. I personally think the playsuit has some rock ‘n roll vibes. So, although there are no festivals this year this one is a perfect outfit to rock around on the next one. It would also be a perfect playsuit to wear in the garden and enjoy some nice moments with friends. The mint green dress with flowers really screams reception or an evening party. The dress with the watermelons and the jumpsuit with pineapple print are both perfectly suitable for work and even ideal to go for a drink after work or directly go to a barbecue.
Who is your fashion icon?
I actually don’t really have one. But if I have to choose, I may choose myself (laughs). I wear what I like and what makes me feel good. I’m not that aware of the newest trends but it appears that I do have a sense of fashion. (laughs)
For a lot of people this summer will be a staycation. Do you have any recommendations or tips?
I found this really nice place and I’m already scared to share it because everyone might go there then (laughs). It’s called Furfooz, a nature park close to Dinant. The hiking paths there are really nice, you can find prehistoric caves where there was found actual sign of life. There’s also an ancient Roman bad house that was found.
Which summer song fits your collection perfectly?
“Everybody is a star” from Sly & the family stone, this song is perfect. It reminds me of a lazy Sunday with a cocktail outside, enjoying the end of a sunny day.
