Over Belgisch modetalent gesproken …
Two of our in-house designers tell you their stories
Following the first edition of the Week of Belgian Fashion (from 14 till 20 October), we talked to some of our in-house designers: Karin and Maud.

Day after day, they create and develop unique, trendy, graceful and / or cool clothing at the LolaLiza HQ. About time for a conversation about the passion for their job and top-notch Belgian fashion!

Was becoming a fashion designer a dream come true for you?

Karin: “In a way, yes, I’ve always been interested and passionate about fashion. My outfits have always been a way for me to show my personality. So I am very happy that I have been able to turn my passion into my job.”

Maud: “The fashion world has fascinated me since childhood. That also had to do with my grandmother. She was a seamstress. I sat next to her in her studio for hours, watching how she made clothes and how she played with fabrics and accessories. I thought that was the best thing ever! So I can’t imagine a better job than the one I have.”

Designing a LolaLiza collection, where do you begin?

“We always work in a team with a stylist, a modelist and a production manager. Every collection actually starts with the analysis of trends and fashion shows, so about 6 months before the clothes are actually in our stores. Of course we also remain alert to trends during the development of the collection. Following up on those trends is one of our strengths.”

Where else do you get your inspiration from?

“Everywhere. From the fashion weeks to our private trips. We store everything we see and experience consciously or unconsciously. On a trip, for example, colors, prints, culture, street art and even people on the street. ””

“Next to that we also visit fashion fairs such as Première Vision and Who’s Next to always stay up-to-date. All those influences then seep into the DNA of LolaLiza. We design a collection based on that inspiration but at the same time remain close to what our customers like.”

What item of clothing do you like designing the most?

“Dresses! They are indispensable in every woman's closet. Short and frivolous. Long and elegant. Body-con or wide. With a striking print or just simple. With sneakers or an elegant pump. Dresses come in handy for different occasions and you can dress them up and down however you want. ”

What’s your favorite piece from the most recent LolaLiza collection?

Karin: “I think the different sweaters are very successful: the knit stitch, the different materials, the fashionable colors, ... It is nice to see how a finished product looks in store. An amazing sweater really gives your outfit a boost! ”

Maud: “For me there is not one specific item that I prefer. I just love to mix and match and create different styles. Anyway I am a fan of the long skirts this season because you can wear them anywhere. And of course I am proud of our brand new Homewear collection. Great cocooning in style, doesn't that make everyone happy? ”

What are the trends for autumn and winter this year?

“The focus is color. Think of bright and feminine green, orange, fuchsia, yellow and blue, but also warm, earthy colors like terracotta, nude and rust tones. You will also find some beige, camel and caramel, combined with the typical white winter tones.”

“Regarding prints, the diamonds are completely back: in tartan and so-called Prince-de-galles or British style. And the animal print is also a keeper: leopard print but also zebra, although it is more graphic and abstract than before. Finally, we should not forget the floral prints, often small print with a nod to the famous Liberty fabrics.”

How do you wear those trends?

“You set the tone with a sweater. This season you will find many shapes, threads, knitting stitches, thicknesses, ... And you finish it off with a striking, colored coat. ”
