Catherine Kosters

Who are you?

I'm Catherine Kosters from Antwerp and I'm a fashion editor at Flair and a freelance journalist. Together with colleague and friend Elspeth Jenkins, I wrote a humorous fashion book called 'Persona Non Prada'.

Where does your interest in fashion come from?

My interest in fashion started in high school when I became fascinated by the style of my favorite musicians and film characters. During my journalism studies, I interned at a fashion magazine, and afterwards, I was able to turn my passion into my profession!

What is the biggest fashion blunder you've ever made?

I don't believe in fashion blunders. Life is short, so wear what you want and don't worry too much about fashion rules. When I look back at old photos, I find those "wrong" outfits quite funny. They take me back to a certain time when, for example, wearing UGGs with a mini-dress was trendy, or dresses over pants (laughs).

Which trend do you miss?

Sometimes, I feel like there's a lack of individuality in today's fashion scene. Trends change super quickly and are constantly recycled. The sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, and noughties are "in" at any given moment. For me, fashion could slow down a bit, and people could hold onto their unique style for longer.

What are the key trends for 2024?

Personally, I'm currently fond of dresses with cut-outs, denim midi skirts, and giant flowers (both as prints and corsages). Cargo pants and the entire Y2K trend are not for me, but still ubiquitous.

Which recent and less recent fashion icons inspire you?

Diverse figures, from fifties socialite C.Z. Guest to sixties and seventies groupie Pamela Des Barres. Nowadays, I draw inspiration from the outfits of fashion director Julia Sarr-Jamois and the ladies from the band Wet Leg.
